COVID-19
On 19 March 2020, New Zealand closed its borders. On 9 April, the Prime Minister announced that a network of Managed Isolation and Quarantine Facilities (MIQFs) would be established, to bring citizens and residents home. The Army, Navy and Air Force have been tasked with supporting the MIQFs, as part of a multi-agency effort run by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

Final deployment lowers flag on NZDF’s time in Afghanistan
The remaining New Zealand Defence Force personnel in Afghanistan have returned home, having lowered the flag on the NZDF’s 20-year deployment to the country.

A C-130H(NZ) Hercules aircraft from No. 40 Squadron and 47 personnel of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) are in Alexandria, Louisiana taking part in this year’s Exercise Green Flag 21, along with the US Air Force, US Army and the Italian Air Force.
