From the Southern Ocean to the Pacific
We deploy aircraft and ships on patrols in Aotearoa New Zealand waters, the Pacific and the Southern Ocean to detect and deter illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Unreported and unregulated fishing is a major issue that threatens sustainable fisheries, the livelihood of Pacific people and undermines regional security.
We support Pacific neighbours and organisations such as the Forum Fisheries Agency and Pacific Quadrilateral Defence Coordinating Group, by conducting maritime security and fisheries patrols each year throughout the Pacific. Working with our neighbours to patrol their exclusive economic zones is an important way of helping them to protect their resources.
