Combined Maritime Forces
We help promote stability with counter-piracy measures and maritime security operations across 3.2 million square miles of international waters, through our work with the Combined Maritime Forces Headquarters in Bahrain. This mission covers some of the world’s most important shipping lanes, from the Red Sea, to the Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean and Gulf of Oman.
New Zealand’s economic prosperity depends upon open sea, air and electronic lines of communication, and the NZDF makes an important contribution to international efforts towards freedom of navigation.
From June 2021 to January 2022, the NZDF commanded the Combined Task Force 150, a multi-national task force conducting security operations outside the Arabian Gulf. The CTF-150 aims to prevent criminal and terrorist organisations from carrying out operations and illegally moving people, weapons, and income-generating narcotics.
The New Zealand Defence Force is currently mandated to deploy up to 12 personnel
