Solomon Islands International Assistance Force

We provide support to the Solomon Islands International Assistance Force (SIAF), to help maintain peace and stability and build a more resilient Pacific.

SIAF was stood up after a request for support from the Solomon Islands Government in November 2021, following a period of civil unrest. Over the course of this operation we have worked alongside the New Zealand Police, Australian Defence Force, Australian Federal Police, Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and personnel from Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

We’ve sent over an infantry platoon group, a female engagement team who help connect with local communities, a medical team, an engineer advisor, logistics support and NZDF commanders. NZ Army personnel have been assisting the RSIPF to build their capacity, through planning and coordination of community patrols, and security for key locations.

The New Zealand Defence Force is currently mandated to deploy up to 15 personnel.
