Operation Gallant Phoenix

Established in 2013, Operation Gallant Phoenix initially aimed to track the flow of foreign terrorist fighters in and out of Iraq and Syria. It has since evolved into a platform where partners collect and share information about potential and existing terrorist threats, regardless of the ideology behind those threats.

New Zealand has been part of this multinational intelligence operation since 2014. The NZDF works alongside a large number of countries and agencies, including law enforcement, military and civilian personnel. Involvement in the operation ensures New Zealand is better equipped to respond to threats to national security.

NZDF personnel deployed to Operation Gallant Phoenix are based in Jordan and work alongside members of the NZ Police as well as international partners.
