Curriculum

The NZDF Command and Staff College run three courses through the academic year:

Advanced Command and Staff Course (Joint)

The Advanced Command and Staff and Course (Joint) is a 37 week residential course which aims to prepare selected Officers of Major equivalent or higher rank for high grade command and staff appointments.

The residential course covers a postgraduate syllabus leading to the qualification of Postgraduate Diploma in International Security.

Intermediate Command and Staff Course (Joint)

The Intermediate Command and Staff Course (Joint) is an intense, eight week residential course which aims to prepare selected Junior Officers for Major (E) responsibilities.

Based on adult learning methodologies, the ICSC(J) aims to develop a high standard of written and oral communication skills through the use of essays, syndicate discussions and oral presentations.

It provides an understanding of Single Service as well as Tri Service roles and tasks, the development of strategic concepts, and prepares the officer to operate with effect in the Joint environment.

Joint Warrant Officer Advanced Course

The Joint Warrant Officer Advanced Course is a world-class senior development course for Warrant Officers of the New Zealand Defence Force and overseas foreign militaries. It is a nine week, high impact, residential course which includes New Zealand and Overseas Study Tours. 

The aim of the Joint Warrant Officer Advanced Course (JWOAC) is to prepare selected Warrant Officers for strategic advisory positions.
