Training accident at Waiouru

The New Zealand Defence Force can confirm a soldier was involved in a training incident in Waiouru today.

During a live firing field exercise the soldier received a shoulder injury when he was struck by a bullet casing while operating his weapon.

The soldier is in a stable condition and has been transferred to hospital for further treatment.

The soldier’s family has been informed.

An inquiry will establish how this happened.
