The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has started the planning process for support to 2018 domestic Anzac Day commemorations.
It is our intention that all requests for NZDF ceremonial support for Anzac Day 2018 will be centrally collated and administered by the Heritage, Commemorations and Protocol Group (HCP), Headquarters NZDF (HQ NZDF).
The purpose of this post is to inform you of the timeline for sending in NZDF support requests for Anzac Day events, as well as updating you on the NZDF approach to the provision of firing parties for Anzac Day services.
In order to obtain NZDF support for Anzac Day 2018 services the event organisers need to do the following:
- Complete an Anzac Day 2018 NZDF Support Requests form (one for each event) and send the form(s) to AnzacSupport@nzdf.mil.nz.
- Ensure that the request is made to HCP Group before Friday 16 February 2018. Requests sent after the deadline will not be considered.
Any questions regarding support can be directed to AnzacSupport@nzdf.mil.nz.
New Zealand Defence Force personnel will not provide firing parties at Anzac Day services from 2018 onwards.
Firing parties are a legacy from post-First World War Anzac Day services when the occasions were funereal in nature allowing the public to come together to mourn for family members who would never have a funeral at home.
The New Zealand Defence Force will continue to conduct volley firing at entitled military funerals and at designated sunset ceremonies.
Please note that requests for limited resources such as buglers, chaplains, bands and large formed bodies of troops will be considered on the basis of geographic availability and based on prior national and international commitments.
Requests for specific individuals to attend services will be met where possible but are not guaranteed. Any other specific requests for resources will be assessed on a case by case basis.
