Chief of Defence Force to Visit India

18 February 2018

The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General Tim Keating, will visit India this week to further the relationship with that country’s armed forces.

The visit will take place over the next five days and will include talks with senior Indian military officials and Minister of Defence Nirmala Sitharaman.

Lieutenant General Keating will also visit an air force base and a naval base.

The visit by the Chief of Defence Force follows on from a successful visit conducted by the Chief of Navy in 2015.

Lieutenant General Keating noted that New Zealand participated in India’s International Fleet Review in February 2016 and the Indian Navy sent a vessel to the Royal New Zealand Navy’s International Naval Review in October that year.

“Our current engagement with India’s armed forces has potential for growth based on our shared values and warm and friendly relationship. I look forward to further developing and reinforcing the NZDF’s relationship with India’s armed forces,” Lieutenant General Keating said.
