Chief of Defence Force to China for Counterpart Visit

13 August 2017

The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General (LTGEN) Tim Keating, is visiting China to conduct meetings with senior Chinese defence officials in Beijing and Shanghai.

LTGEN Keating said his key engagements during the visit would be with General Fan Changlong, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, People’s Liberation Army and his counterpart General Fang Fenghui, the Chief of Joint Staff Department, People’s Liberation Army.

“I undertake these counterpart visits so we can discuss issues of mutual interest with other militaries,” says LTGEN Keating. “It’s important that we talk with other militaries, and China is an important player in the Asia-Pacific region.”

LTGEN Keating will be back in New Zealand mid next week.
