NZDF Helps Search for Victims of Kaipara Boat Tragedy

Twelve personnel from the New Zealand Defence Force are helping comb the area in Kaipara Harbour where a boat with 11 people on board capsized on Saturday afternoon.

Police said three people were plucked alive from the water along with five bodies. Two more bodies have since been found and one person is still missing.
Group Captain Tim Walshe, Base Commander of Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Auckland, said the Defence Force personnel have been scouring the shoreline today, and are still helping in the search for the remaining missing person.
“To assist in the search, we have also given New Zealand Police access to the Kaipara Air Weapons Range facilities.”
The charter fishing boat The Francie capsized near Kaipara Harbour’s North Head on Saturday afternoon.
