Chief of Defence Force to Visit Canada, US

20 March 2016

The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General (LTGEN) Tim Keating, will visit Canada and the United States to meet with senior military officers in both countries.

The first part of the visit will be to Canada, where LTGEN Keating will meet the Chief of Defence Staff, General Jonathan Vance, and the chiefs of the three Canadian services.

His meetings include a briefing on Operation Honor, which has helped inform the NZDF initiative, Operation Respect, announced this week.

In the United States, his visit programme includes calls at the Pentagon and State Department in Washington DC.

LTGEN Keating’s visit to the Pentagon is scheduled to include a meeting with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford.

“This visit is part of my regular programme of visits to counterparts in other countries,” says LTGEN Keating. “I look forward to my discussions with senior military and civilian officials in both Canada and the United States.”

LTGEN Keating returns to New Zealand on 26 March.
