The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General (LTGEN) Tim Keating, today departed for Brussels where he will attend the NATO Chiefs of Defence conference scheduled to take place next week.
“New Zealand has had a partner relationship with NATO since 2001, and contributed troops to NATO-led missions in Afghanistan and Bosnia,” LTGEN Keating said.
“New Zealand has also contributed on two occasions to NATO’s maritime counter piracy operation off the Horn of Africa.
“This is a valuable opportunity to meet with Chiefs of Defence from other parts of the world and discuss current NATO missions.”
While in Europe, LTGEN Keating will also visit counterparts in France and the United Kingdom to discuss emerging security issues, ensuring the NZ Defence Force maintains its strong working relationship with these traditional military partners.
