The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General (LTGEN) Tim Keating will attend a United Nations member states Chiefs of Defence conference in New York later this week.
“This is a valuable opportunity for me to meet with Chiefs of Defence from all over the world and discuss issues of mutual interest,” says LTGEN Keating.
The conference will take place 26-27 March at the United Nations in New York, and 100 senior delegates will attend.
“The conference will focus on developing an understanding of the UN peacekeeping challenges and requirements, the need to adequately train and equip forces involved in peacekeeping, and on identifying areas where the UN requires support and commitment,” he says.
“New Zealand has a proud record in assisting with UN peacekeeping missions around the world, and I’m sure that the opportunity to share experiences and learn from other countries about the UN’s requirements will benefit all involved,” says LTGEN Keating.
