Vice Chief of Defence Force hosts NATO Military Committee Chairman

The Vice Chief of Defence Force, Air Vice-Marshal Kevin Short, will host a visit to New Zealand by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Military Committee Chairman, General Knud Bartels.

“I am pleased to be hosting such a distinguished visitor. General Bartels is the top military official within Headquarters NATO, and reports directly to the NATO Secretary-General.

“The New Zealand Defence Force enjoys a good relationship with NATO, and I am looking forward to discussing issues of mutual interest with General Bartels,” says Air Vice-Marshal Short.

Tomorrow morning at 8.30am General Bartels will lay a wreath at the National War Memorial in Wellington.

Air Vice-Marshal Short and Secretary of Defence Helene Quilter will hold discussions with General Bartels tomorrow. He will also meet academics and address the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs. 

During his visit, General Bartels will visit defence facilities including Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Auckland and Devonport Naval Base.

He departs New Zealand on 21 February.
