Chief of Defence to Host UK Chief of Defence Visit

4 February 2015

The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General (LTGEN) Tim Keating, will today host a visit by the United Kingdom’s Chief of the Defence Staff, General (GEN) Sir Nicholas Houghton.

“The United Kingdom is one of our closest defence relationships,” says LTGEN Keating. “Our links are strong, deep and enduring, and visits such as this underscore that fact.

“Our two defence forces are working closely together to continue fostering that historic and deep partnership into the future.”

GEN Houghton’s visit includes visits to defence bases and camps including RNZAF Base Auckland and Linton.

He will also hold talks with defence officials, including LTGEN Keating, to discuss matters of mutual interest, in order to maintain and improve bilateral military co-operation.

This morning GEN Houghton will lay a wreath at the Auckland War Memorial Museum in a ceremony starting at 9.30am. He will then depart for RNZAF Base Auckland for a visit that will include a P-3K2 Orion flight.
