The Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General Tim Keating (LTGEN), will visit Viet Nam to further the relationship and mark the 40th anniversary of New Zealand’s diplomatic relations with that country.
LTGEN Keating leaves tonight for the five day visit that will include talks with senior Viet Nam military officials, and visits to a number of military units and bases.
“New Zealand values its growing bilateral relationship with Viet Nam, and defence ties are an important part of that broader relationship.
“The defence relationship has developed more momentum over the last 18 months,” says LTGEN Keating. “I look forward to furthering that relationship.”
“Military interaction with Viet Nam has included hosting visits to New Zealand by senior Viet Nam military officials, including the Viet Nam Vice Minister of National Defence, General Nguyen Chi Vinh.”
LTGEN Keating’s visit will include visits to Ha Noi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, and calls on the Minister of National Defence, GEN Phung Quang Thanh, and the Chief of General Staff, SR LTGEN Do Bay Ty.
