Christchurch local Niva Chittock (11), has spent a day with the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) after placing second in the NZ Defence Force’s Operation ANZAC Spirit poster competition earlier this year.

As part of her prize, Niva, who attends Opawa School, spent a day at RNZAF Base Ohakea last Thursday (4 October). Niva flew in an Iroquois, tried out the A109 helicopter simulator, and was shown around the Base.

Niva said she had a great time at RNZAF Base Ohakea.

"It was awesome. My favourite thing was when we went flying on the Iroquois helicopter.

"I loved flying the A109 simulator and everyone was really nice," said Niva.

Operation ANZAC Spirit is a poster competition run by the New Zealand Defence Force to encourage students to learn about ANZAC Day and how it is commemorated.

Niva’s stunning poster was created in pencil and water colours showing the ANZAC Memorial Bridge of Remembrance in Christchurch.

Almost 250 entries were received from during the competition, which asked Year 7 and 8 students to design and create a poster showing Anzac Day in their communities.
