Navy Ships Operational Visit To Wellington

16 July 2012

Two Royal New Zealand Navy ships will sail in formation into Wellington Harbour on 17 July 2012 as they arrive to conduct operational visits to the port.

Over the period 17 – 23 July 2012, HMNZ Ships CANTERBURY and TAUPO will be berthed at Aotea Quay and Queen’s Wharf in the Port of Wellington.

During the visit the ships will be conducting operational trials, which also involve the NZ Army, and pre-arranged Defence visits. Unfortunately during this visit both ships will not be open to the public.

Following her departure, CANTERBURY will be conducting a resupply of Stephens Island in conjunction with the Department of Conservation before heading to Raoul Island in August for a multi agency resupply operation.

The mission to Raoul Island includes the passage of 30 Sir Peter Blake Trust Young Leader Award winners who will have the unique opportunity to observe the largest and northernmost of the Kermadec Islands.
