26 April 2012
North Shore MP Maggie Barry will carry out the prestigious Reviewing Officer role at the Royal New Zealand Navy’s graduation parade of its newest sailors this week.
The trainees have just completed 12 weeks of demanding Navy training, including an academic programme covering naval history, discipline, core values and maritime skills as well as an intense level of physical training, precision marching and parade training.
Media are invited to attend the graduation parade at 1000 Friday 27 April, at the Devonport Naval Base.
Maggie Barry will be received on to the Navy base by an official Powhiri before the graduation ceremony commences.
On conclusion of the event the crowd will be challenged by the Navy haka, given by the 62 graduating sailors. The audience of family, friends and media will then be able to observe a display put on by the recruits themselves of some of the unique types of training they have completed, including fire fighting, parade and physical training.
