US Defence personnel visit New Zealand

13 February 2012

The New Zealand Defence Force is hosting a delegation of United States defence personnel this week.

The US delegation is here to attend a five-day ‘working-level’ meeting.  The purpose of this meeting is to familiarise US personnel with the capabilities of the New Zealand Defence Force.

The visit is part of the new focus on practical cooperation in the Pacific region, as signalled by the Wellington Declaration, signed in November 2010 by United States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs Murray McCully.  It is the first of this year’s scheduled activities involving US defence personnel in New Zealand.

The visitors’ itinerary includes capability displays, a visit to the Maritime Warfare Training Centre, and presentations by various New Zealand Defence Force personnel.
