Thousands of Wellingtonians turned out today to watch the Navy parade through the streets of Wellington and then visit the ships berthed around the inner harbour.

Nearly 500 sailors marched from Parliament Grounds to Civic Square where they were welcomed by the Mayor of Wellington Celia Wade-Brown.  The parade was preceded by a ceremony to change the Queen's Colour at Parliament.  His Excellency Lieutenant General the Right Honourable Sir Jerry Mateparae, reviewed the parade which happens once every 20 years.

From midday thousands of Wellingtonians, and visitors from France and Canada, visited ships of the Royal New Zealand Navy berthed around Wellington's inner harbour.
