16 July 2010
In association with the Palmertson North Lions Club and conducted by Squadron Leader Owen Clarke, the 65 members of the Central Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force will perform the popular Air Force Proms concert in Palmerston North at 2.30pm on Sunday 25 July.
The concert will feature soprano Karyn Andressand, MC Kevin Keys and the spectacular vocal trio Tre-Belle.
The performance by New Zealand’s largest professional symphonic band will be jam-packed with "something for everyone". It will be a spectacular occasion with fanfare trumpets, bagpipes, guest vocalists and solo performers, as well as the band’s brass, saxophones, woodwind and drummers.
The music performed will range from Proms classics and traditional to jazz and modern hits and will finish with the spectacular 1812 Overture.
The concert will also pay a tribute to those who have served in the military. "The tradition of a military band can evoke memories and remembrances for past servicemen and women, and their families" said the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s Director of Music, Squadron Leader Owen Clarke.
Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the soon to be established RNZAF "Missing Wingman Trust".
