First Auckland youth training course graduates

2 July 2010

This Saturday, 124 young Aucklanders will graduate from the first Limited Service Volunteer (LSV) course run in Auckland.

Media are invited to join friends and families of the graduates at the graduation parade at Hobsonville on Saturday morning.

LSV is a six week residential course for unemployed young people aged between 17-25.  The course is a joint venture between the New Zealand Defence Force and the Ministry of Social Development.

The course prepares young people to enter the workforce.  Trainees develop core values like respect, team work and self esteem. Mentoring and personal development ensure that trainees leave better equipped to enter the workforce or vocational training.

The LSV course has been run by the New Zealand Defence Force in Christchurch for over 20 years. In 2009 the Government funded the expansion of the course to Wellington and Auckland and new facilities at Trentham and Hobsonville have been established to deliver the course.
