A combined NZDF/US patrol from the New Zealand Provincial Reconstruction Team (NZPRT) in the North East of Bamyan Province, Afghanistan, was attacked by a group of insurgents using small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades early Friday afternoon (Afghanistan time).
There were no casualties.
The patrol returned fire and Coalition air support was activated. Supporting New Zealand patrols moved to assist and NZDF personnel, in conjunction with the Afghan National Police, have now secured the area. Normal patrols will continue throughout the Bamyan Province.
“Although Bamyan Province continues to be a relatively secure part of Afghanistan, it is imperative that we continue to provide security alongside the Afghan National Police,” said Senior National Officer Colonel Martin Dransfield.
