Afghanistan tour ends for Kiwi troops

Media are invited to attend the return of the fifteenth rotation of the New Zealand Provincial Reconstruction Team, who have completed a six month deployment in Afghanistan.

Approximately 85 New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) personnel will arrive at Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Ohakea at 8.05pm on Saturday 17 April 2010. 

They will be met by Commander Joint Forces New Zealand Air Vice Marshal Peter Stockwell, Wellington/West Coast/Taranaki RSA District President Mr Glover Anderson, family and friends.

The rest of the personnel in the 126 strong rotation have already returned.

When: 8.05pm, Saturday 17 April 2010

Where: Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Ohakea

What: Arrival of 85 NZDF personnel from a six month deployment in Afghanistan.

New Zealand’s contribution to Afghanistan is as follows:

  • 114 personnel in the NZ Provincial Reconstruction Team in Bamyan Province. 
  • Two non-commissioned officers assisting with training of Afghan National Army troops.
  • Five officers in International Security Assistance Force headquarters positions.
  • One military liaison officer with the United Nations Assistance Mission. 
  • SAS personnel in Kabul.

There are currently 1185 New Zealand Defence Force personnel deployed on 14 operations, UN missions and defence exercises around the world.
